Merged into b1.2.
The problem was that the second attempt to fix this ticket was merged only to b1.3 and master, so b1.2 had only the first incomplete solution.

it looks like it has been wrongly merged for b1.2 since it doesn't include the essential part of your patch.

Reopening because the problem still exists on b1.3. Maybe Spark does have a thread leak here?
