Now it has some performance overhead. On my computer it is about 5% - 10% for reading and much less for writing. Therefore, I added an option to disable metrics in SparkConf.

could you take a look together with before I go further with documentation and maybe some tests if it is at all possible?

The next step is to provide more metrics which describe the performance in terms of rows, batches, delays, etc.
